Hawaiian Rainforest Tea

This Hawaiian “Volcano” black tea may be rare, but anyone expecting some sort of unique “Hawaii” flavor might be somewhat disappointed. The leaves themselves are pretty much whole, and are curled unlike most other whole black teas. The presentation really is beautiful. The leaves smell like tea, which is to say delicious. “Volcano” offers a mild, woody taste, with little acidity or grit. From what I could dig up, the tea is a combination of the Assam and Sinensis plant varieties, and when trying to think of what country of origin to compare the Volcano Tea to, I realized that it does taste a bit like a combination of Assam and China blacks. The tea takes sugar readily, and just a teaspoon sweetens it up quite a bit. Worth trying if you have the money to throw around, but know that you’re not going to get enough cups to find that perfect tsp/temp/time steeping combination. Nice presentation, good taste, and for some it will undoubtedly be an occasional luxury.
